Tascam Portastudio 246 80's 4 Track Multitrack Cassette Tape Recorder - 100V
The best way to add some nice analogue, grainy and warm vintage sound to your recordings. At the time the 246 was one of the best multitrack recorders you could get your hands on. It features a 6-channel mixer section with proper routing facilities, insert points on every channel and two effects sends. In the EQ department, you are provided with a 2-band sweepable system, there are four large illuminated meters for the four record busses (incorporating peak reading LEDs), and two smaller ones for the master left/right mix, and the tape transport controls incorporate a memory feature as well as a zero return facility, there is a choice of two tape speeds so that you can still play your pre-recorded stereo cassettes. For serious multitrack recording, the higher speed of 3¾ips is to be recommended as the quality is noticeably better. The noise reduction system is DBX but in recognition of the fact that some drum machines and time codes don't like it, you can either switch it out on channel four only or completely by means of slide switches located on the rear panel.
Condition:
- This is a used unit.
- Physically this unit is in good condition! It shows some wear from use and age like some small marks, nicks and scratches. The coloured knobs are still nice and bright! The most notable wear is that it does not have a tape door. Please see all photos for further details.
- This 246 has been serviced. The service included but is not limited to:
- Deep clean inside and out.
- Deep clean of the tape mechanism.
- Lubricated and greased all moving parts.
- Installed brand new belts and idler tyres.
- Demagnetised the heads.
- Replaced faulty parts and components.
- Thorough test of all functions.
- Calibrated record and playback levels.
- Please be aware this unit is 100V. This means it MUST be used with a step-down transformer. A high quality, isolated step-down will be included for Australian and New Zealand buyers only. If you purchase from overseas you may also need to use a step-down. Please get in touch before purchase or powering on if you are unsure at all.
