Fostex G16 16-Track 1/2″ Reel-to-Reel Professional Multitrack Tape Recorder 100V
The Fostex G16 is a 16-track analog reel-to-reel multitrack recorder designed to record on ½-inch magnetic tape. It was produced by Fostex in the 1980s and was intended for project and professional studios needing higher track counts than cassette Portastudios. The machine records and plays back 16 tracks simultaneously. The transport control panel comes off the front and has a long extension cable so it can be used as a remote!

This Fostex unit has been professionally serviced and is ready for use in the studio or at home. The service included an internal and external clean, the tape mechanism was fully serviced, cleaned, and lubricated. All bearings in the tape path were replaced, and the capstan motor bearing was oiled. The tape heads were cleaned and properly degaussed to ensure optimal performance.
All channels were thoroughly tested, and any faulty components were replaced as required. Record and playback levels were calibrated to factory specifications. In addition, the controller memory backup battery has been upgraded and relocated off the mainboard.
This G16 not only looks great, its performance is excellent, delivering the classic sound these machines are known for.
- This unit is in great condition for its age. It shows some general wear from use and age. Wear includes some small general marks and nicks. Nothing major at all. Overall it is a nice piece!
- This unit ships with an extension cord for the font panel controller!
- Please be aware, this unit is 100V and draws 80 Watts. This means you MUST connect it to the correct step-down transformer before powering it on. If you are unsure about this feel free to send us a message as we would be glad to help you source the correct item. We also have some for sale HERE
