The Tascam MIDIizer MTS‑1000 is a vintage MIDI‑to‑SMPTE synchroniser and remote control unit made in Japan during the late 1980s/early 1990s. It enables reliable sync between MIDI sequencers and analog Tascam multi-track tape recorders (such as the TSR‑8, MSR‑16, MSR‑24, and 238) via its SMPTE track or DIN sync pulse outputs. It features full transport controls (play, stop, locate, etc.), supports MIDI Clock and MTC, and emits configurable pulse rates (e.g. 24 ppq) for modular or tape sync integration. The MTS‑1000 is highly regarded for its ability to lock multiple tape decks in sync, operate as a remote control for legacy recorders, and serve as a synchronisation hub in hybrid analog/MIDI studios.
